The Glendale area was settled over 100 years ago after the dam and canal were built. This and the railroad allowed an otherwise barren and dry and desolate piece raw desert land  to flourish with its rich soil. Glendale was founded in 1892.

Military personnel were brought in to train at Luke and Thunderbird fields during World War II and some came back after the war to settle and raise their families.

This predominant farming area was later developed into a major urban community and one of the fastest growing cities in the country.
